Minutes of HBUF Meeting, St Barnabas Small Hall, Mon 11 June 2018

Present at meeting: John Ballman, Steve Thompson, Josie Lewis, Bob Sherman, Mary Farragher, Sue Gwinnell, Kate Henery, Marieanna McPherson, Amanda Mustoe, Jake Chandler

Apologies for absence: None

Minutes of last meeting: Accepted as a true record, apart from correction to item about hoeing to be done to bramble shoots in wildflower meadow (not to thistles)

Matters Arising:

  • No reply from F*** P****; Mary to chase up with further letter
  • Bees arrived 1st June
  • Dropped bollard – Josie will follow up
  • Dangerous trees – £750 is the quote; Parish Council will pay and we will refund them; order was placed today
  • Road planings – Josie meeting Mike Ashmore on Wed (639 metres of paths to be done) but proviso not to sign up for anything as funds will be severely depleted once mower bill paid
  • Nationwide volunteers Mon 13th August, to be asked to rake off the mown grass; John Ballman will see to guards to place round base of trees for strimming; Josie will approach Wilts Wellbeing group again

Danger to squirrels:

  • Noted that Wildlife Act prohibits deliberate targeting of wild animals

General Data Protection Regulations:

A few people still to reply to this

Leaving some grass longer:

  • No mowing in Ballman Field so deer will have cover there
  • No paths to be mown too wide

AGM date:

Monday 9th July 2018; anyone wishing to stand for positions to apply formally via Steve Thompson


  • John Ballman/Andy Reeve recommend approaching Gladys Barr for help on applying for grant for substantial tractor
  • Tiverton Field – we are still planning wildflower meadow but it’s all part of the 10,000 trees scheme
  • Tree circle – Steve to follow up Crowdfunding
