Mowing the Meadow 2026

This year, mowing the wildflower meadow is going to be extra special. Thanks to our friends at the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, we’ll be going old-school and using scythes to cut the grass.

So, if you’ve ever fancied giving it a go, now is your chance! You will be working under the supervision of Simon & Andy, who’ll show you what to do and provide necessary levels of encouragement.

We also need plenty of people to help us collect up and move all of the cut grass, which benefits the wildflowers by reducing the fertility of the soil. If you don’t want to be one of our jolly reapers then there’s still plenty of important work for you to do.

Children are welcome with a responsible adult. They can help to shift the cut grass and there are often frogs and mice waiting to be discovered, though scythes will be strictly adults-only!

We’ll be there from 10am to 2pm with a break for lunch, so feel free to bring a packed lunch and drinks, or a full-on picnic. You’re welcome to pop down any time for as long as you can. Andy will provide cake 🙂
